National Eating Disorder Information Centre presents:
Body Image and Self Esteem:
Shades of Grey Conference
May 11 - 12, 2009
Toronto, ON
Hungry for change?
Unattainable body “ideals” encourage black and white judgments. We either ‘fit’ or we don’t. And the changing goal-posts mean we’re never certain, often obsessing about our appearance. Weight and shape preoccupations are rarely about vanity, or even health.
But subtle understandings help pave the path to acceptance and self-esteem, so NEDIC’s 2009 Shades of Grey Conference is all about embracing the nuances of beauty and exploring the complexities of health and well-being.
Leading-edge practitioners, educators and activists offer opportunities to share experiences, learn new approaches, and change perceptions about body image issues.
• How are increasing obesity concerns changing the conversation?
• What strategies are most effective at addressing self-esteem?
• Who’s doing innovative research we can use?
• Where can we find the best balance between exercise and nutrition?
• When can we shift from treatment to prevention?
• Why should we care about what’s happening on Facebook?
• How are body image issues affecting diverse populations, including young men?
These are just a few of the questions we’ll be answering in our efforts to tease out the Shades of Grey. Join us for two days of provocative presentations, energizing insights and invaluable networking.
